Active Ingredient: Macrogol-3350 ( polyethylene glycol-3350 )

Indications: bowel cleansing prior to examination or colonic surgical procedures.

Contra-indications: gastro-intestinal obstruction or perforation; gastric retention; acute severe colitis; toxic megacolon; ileus

Cautions: colitis (avoid if acute severe colitis); children; elderly; heart failure; debilitated states; impaired gag reflex or possibility of regurgitation or aspirationPatients with fluid and electrolyte disturbances Renal function should be measured before starting treatment in patients at risk of fluid and electrolyte disturbances; hypovolaemia should be corrected before administration; adequate hydration should be maintained during treatment.

Use in diabetics as the liquid diet during the period of administration may affect blood glucose concentrations, adjustment of insulin or oral anti-diabetic medication may be necessary.

Note: Other oral drugs should not be taken one hour before or after administration as absorption may be impaired.

Breast-feeding: compatible

Adverse effects: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain (usually transient?reduced by administering more slowly), abdominal distension; less commonly abdominal cramps, headache, dizziness, dehydration, electrolyte disturbances; also reported skin reactions, rhinorrhoea

Dose:

Bowel Cleansing: Adult 250 mL of reconstituted solution every 10-15 minutes, starting on the day before procedure until 4 litres have been consumed or before if bowel motions become watery and clear; alternatively, administration may be divided into two (i.e. 2 litres of reconstituted solution taken on the evening before procedure and 2 litres of reconstituted solution taken on the morning of procedure) or as directed by your doctor.

Nasogastric: Adult 20-30 mL/min of reconstituted solution. Dissolve sachet in 1 L water or as directed by your doctor..

Patient advice: No solid food should be eaten for at least 2 hours prior to commencing dose.

Other oral drugs should not be taken one hour before or after administration of bowel cleansing preparations because absorption may be impaired.
